Mikey Madison's Social Reckoning Dresses: Get the Look — Couture Yellow in London, Sheer Westwood in New York

Two premieres, two very different strapless gowns, one stylist. What Mikey Madison wore for The Social Reckoning, why both looks work, and how to borrow the ideas.

Key takeaway: Neither gown can be bought: the London dress is from Standing Ground's fall 2026 couture collection and the New York gown is Vivienne Westwood. The wearable takeaways are a fitted, strapless yellow column and a sheer embellished overlay worn over a black bodysuit.

Mikey Madison's press tour for The Social Reckoning, Aaron Sorkin's film about the Facebook whistleblower Frances Haugen, is her first major round of red carpets since she won the Oscar for Anora. She is working with stylist Andrew Mukamal, best known for Margot Robbie's Barbie press wardrobe, and the two premieres so far show a clear plan: one sculpted, strapless gown per city, each paired with jewellery from Tiffany & Co., which Madison represents as a global ambassador.

London: Standing Ground couture in butter yellow

At the London gala screening at Curzon Mayfair on September 29, Madison wore a gown from the fall 2026 couture collection of Standing Ground, the London-based house designed by Clare-born Michael Stewart. WWD describes it as a textural, structural bright butter-yellow gown with a touch of black: strapless, form-fitting, with an exaggerated crumb-catcher neckline edged in a small black panel and a bubble motif worked into the fabric. RTÉ adds that the beading was sewn into the fabric itself, draped across the bodice and hips and carried down into a subtle train. The collection debuted at Paris Couture Week in July 2026.

Her Tiffany pieces, per WWD, were Bird on a Rock wings drop earrings in platinum with diamonds, a Sixteen Stone bangle and a Jean Schlumberger wrap ring set with a yellow sapphire of more than eight carats. The yellow stone repeats the colour of the dress on a small scale, which is why the whole look reads as one deliberate idea rather than a dress with jewellery added.

Why it works: a single bright colour from neckline to hem gives a strong, simple outline on a crowded carpet, and the black edge at the neckline does the job a belt or a contrast clutch would normally do, giving the eye a place to stop. The texture matters too. A flat yellow satin in the same shape would look much plainer in photos; the raised beading catches light and keeps the colour from looking flat.

New York: sheer Vivienne Westwood over a black bodysuit

For the New York premiere at Regal Union Square on Sunday, October 4, Madison changed direction completely. WWD reports a strapless Vivienne Westwood gown made mostly of sheer fabric covered in shimmering embellishment, worn over a black leotard-style bustier bodysuit; W Magazine describes it as "twisted corsetry and peekaboo sheer" and notes the side-parted, Old Hollywood hair. The jewellery was again Tiffany: per WWD, a Bird on a Rock feathers necklace and matching bird earrings in platinum and gold with diamonds, and a Jean Schlumberger ribbon ring with a rubellite of more than four carats.

Why it works: the opaque black layer underneath is what makes the sheer gown look intentional rather than exposed. It draws a clear, graphic shape inside the dress, the way a slip does under lace, and the embellishment on top softens that shape so it doesn't look like lingerie. The warmer gold in the jewellery stops an all-black-and-sparkle look from feeling cold.

How to wear the ideas

For the London look, the idea to borrow is colour plus structure: a fitted, strapless or sweetheart-neck dress in one clear yellow, with a firm bodice so the shape holds without straps. Butter yellow is easier to wear than lemon or neon because it is softer against most skin tones. Keep accessories in the same warm family, gold or a single yellow stone, and skip a printed bag; the colour is the statement. A corset-style maxi dress gives a similar outline at a wedding or a formal party.

For the New York look, the wearable version is a sheer or mesh overlay worn over something solid: a black bodysuit, a slip or a fitted mini underneath a long sheer skirt or dress. Choose an overlay with some surface detail (beading, sequins, rhinestones or a woven pattern), because plain sheer chiffon over black can look unfinished. Keep the jewellery to one strong piece at the neck and simple earrings, and pick a closed shoe; strappy sandals make the look feel more like nightwear.

What to avoid

With a single bright colour, don't add a second bright colour in shoes or bag; nude, metallic or black keeps the focus on the dress. With sheer, the mistake is a visible mismatch underneath: a bra strap or a bodysuit in a different black from the overlay will show in photos. Check both looks in daylight and with a flash before an event, since camera flash can make sheer fabric much more see-through than it looks in a mirror.
